These Citizenship Clinics are hosted by the Asian Pacific Islanders Coalition of South Puget Sound (APIC SPS) in partnership with The Korean Women's Association (KWA). Board Member Jayachitra Chandrasekaran She/her/hers President of the India South Sound Association Jayachitra is a classical bharathanatiyam dancer and entrepreneur who represents the Indian community in Olympia. She is the president and co-founder of the India South Sound Association. Jayachitra has been a resident of Olympia for the past 25 years. Her organization has been inspiring and training young spirits to share Indian culture through dance, yoga, sports, music, drama, youth groups, and community service. She believes that the bonds that unite us are stronger than the barriers that separate us. Board Member Donald Lee Brannam PhD He/him/his Retired education administrator Donald has been a teacher, career education coordinator, vocational director, principal and superintendent in WA public schools. He has also worked as a university professor in teacher education. He have two daughters adopted from foreign countries and is very supported of adoption programs and migrant children relocation programs. The Asian Pacific Islander Coalition (APIC) was created after the 1996 Welfare Reform Act significantly impacted and reduced non-citizens’ federal eligibility for public assistance programs. After recognizing the need for a collective voice advocating for the rights and equity of foreign-born Asian and Pacific Islanders (API), APIC began lobbying for the Washington State legislature to address the gap created by federal legislation. Building off this legacy, every year APIC Chapters from King, Pierce, Snohomish, Yakima, and Spokane counties and South Puget Sound bring together immigrants, refugees, and citizens from Washington state to meet with the Governor, State Representatives, and State Senators to advocate for the issues most impactful to our communities.
