ការតស៊ូមតិ និងការចូលរួមរបស់ពលរដ្ឋ APIC Legislative Day In 2026, we brought together community members from around the state to meet with legislators to advocate for important policies and programs that impact our communities. We held multiple virtual trainings and were able to advocate for our communities together! Thank you to everyone who joined our 2026 AANH/PI Legislative day on February 5th in Olympia, WA! We joined the great APIC WA advocating for community health, immigrant justice, environmental justice, history education, and economic equity. So proud of our community activists and youth for advocating for our communities in front of government officials. We showed up. We spoke up. We stood together on the Capitol steps and met with elected officials across our legislative districts to share the concerns and what we stand for. Representation matters! Grateful for all of our many strong community advocates and our youth taking time to join us! Let us continue advocating for our community! Thank you all! We heard from BIPoC leaders in a variety of sectors who shared their stories and best practices. Participants had time to build practical leadership skills, network with mentors, peers and allies, work on community projects, and explore advocacy and civic engagement opportunities. APIC Democracy Summit APIC's Democracy Summit happened on Friday, September 27th, 2024 at the Tacoma Dome. Every four years, the Asian Pacific Islander Coalition of Washington holds a Democracy Summit with the goal of encouraging and promoting culturally meaningful and holistic civic engagement in our communities, and creating a space for our communities to collectivize around the issues that matter most to us. The summit is an opportunity for our culturally, linguistically, and geographically diverse AANHPI communities to come together and make sure our elected officials or candidates see, hear, and understand our collective power. After recognizing the need for a collective voice advocating for the rights and equity of foreign-born Asian and Pacific Islanders (API), APIC began lobbying for the Washington State legislature to address the gap created by federal legislation. Building off this legacy, every year APIC Chapters from King, Pierce, Snohomish, Yakima, and Spokane counties and South Puget Sound bring together immigrants, refugees, and citizens from Washington state to meet with the Governor, State Representatives, and State Senators to advocate for the issues most impactful to our communities. Recognizing the need for a collective voice advocating for the rights and equity of foreign-born Asian and Pacific Islanders, APIC formed to voice our opinions the Washington State legislature to address the gap created by federal and state legislation APIC championed the passage of legislation that created a state supported safety net. This included: State-funded food stamps program State-funded naturalization program Ensured access to basic income support programs and emergency & Covid medical programs for immigrants and refugees Creation of a limited english proficient employment pathway program Asian Pacific Islanders Coalition of South Puget Sound is a part of APIC of Washington's network with its own nonprofit status. It was co-founded in 2003. Our Values Honoring our history We must preserve and learn from the past. We celebrate our unique stories, successes and struggles, pain, and disappointments. Valuing the intergenerational wisdom our community has means cultivating meaningful connections between generations. We center youth voices and leadership as we continue to grow. Commitment to Equity and Justice Centering the voices and lived experiences of oppressed communities comes first. We must acknowledge the intersections of privilege and oppression. We are committed to fighting against white supremacy through an anti-racist lens. Modeling Integrity We move at the speed of trust and consensus. Transparency is a top priority. Nourishing Community It is vital to create spaces for learning, reflection, and expression through mediums such as cultural/spiritual arts and literary mediums. We build and lift each other up with love, compassion, and empathy. Leading with Courage and Passion We embrace differences and lean into discomfort. We celebrate success and acknowledge the wisdom of failure. Building Power and Solidarity Our ancestors are always with us. We recognize the interconnectedness of our oppression and the work of those who came before us. We ground our work in the struggles of Indigenous communities.

Medicaid has provided vital health care to over 80 million Americans, including children, seniors, people with disabilities, and many within our AANHPI communities. In Washington State alone, nearly 2 million people rely on Apple Health (the state's Medicaid program). On July 4th, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act was signed, cutting almost $1 trillion from Medicaid. The Bill also curtails provider taxes, meaning states have to make a difficult choice: make cuts to other services (such as education) or raise taxes, or make even deeper cuts to Medicaid. Governor Ferguson's office estimates at least 250,000 Washingtonians will lose Medicaid Coverage . Read the Health Care Authority report below for more information.
