समाचार APIC SPS Community Engagement Internship APIC SPS is seeking an intern for 2025-26. We are looking for undergraduate students, graduate students, or recent graduates who can demonstrate that they seek to gain hands-on experience in grassroots community engagement and development within a community organization. The APIC SPS Internship Program strives to encourage and cultivate young AANHPI student leaders to explore a career in the public service, public policy, community, or related sectors. This internship program will also provide hands-on experience and training on how to organize and implement community and civic engagement activities to increase the participation of AANHPIs in community engagement and public policy process. Intern(s) report to the Program Director. For 2025-26, we are offering this paid Community Engagement Internship. If you are interested in remote, unpaid internships throughout the year, please apply as well. Deadline : End of June , 2025, or until filled. Paid intern receives a total stipend of $11,000 between June 2025 and May, 2026, or approximately $1000 monthly. The internship time frame may be negotiated with the Program Director and per contract. Share Your Story Thurston Forward: A DEI Summit for Progress We had a wonderful conversation during our May DEI Summit! This event fostered collaborative action among community leaders and individuals who are passionate about making a difference. We invited all who live, work, study, or play in Thurston County and are committed to advocating for marginalized groups to come together and take part in solutions. This summit was an opportunity to engage with others who share a vision for a more inclusive, equitable, and just community. Check back on our events page in the future to get involved! Race Dialogue Our 6th annual Race Dialogue was held on March 29th, 2025. The goal of this dialogue was to inform us how racism hurts us all, and how we can be effective allies to each other. We aim to empower everyone with the tools needed to have uncomfortable yet constructive conversations in the context of their own unique lived experiences within their communities. This is an opportunity to form collaborations with other like-minded organizations and individuals. We were joined by speakers: Golden Neal, Fernando Mejia Ledesma, Denise Miño, and Kristin Ang. Citizenship Applications Assitance Clinics APIC SPS partnered with OneAmerica and other local organizations to offer a Citizenship Clinic on March 15! This event was open to legal permanent residents/Green Card holders who wanted to take the next step and become a US citizen. Every four years, the Asian Pacific Islander Coalition of Washington holds a Democracy Summit with the goal of encouraging and promoting culturally meaningful and holistic civic engagement in our communities, and creating a space for our communities to collectivize around the issues that matter most to us. The summit is an opportunity for our culturally, linguistically, and geographically diverse AANHPI communities to come together and make sure our elected officials or candidates see, hear, and understand our collective power. These program funding sources were cut during the 2008 financial crisis, causing immigrant communities to suffer disproportionately during that time of economic downturn.
